carbon fiber solid laminate: 6.2oz 2x2 twill - 7 layers (140 grams) - load 4.4 lbs.

carbon fiber solid laminate: 6.2oz 2x2 twill - 14 layers (278 grams) - load 24.2 lbs.

carbon fiber skinned honeycomb: 6.2oz 2x2 twill - 2 layers either side - 1/2" honeycomb (total weight of skinned honeycomb: 180 grams) - load 24.2 lbs.

All samples above were ~4"x25". All were vacuum bagged and cooked (elevated temperature epoxy).

Samples are now currently at a materials lab (11/13/04-) for further and much more scientific testing than the above "paint can" testing apparatus... Even the above tests however readily illustrate the benefits of honeycomb versus even a 14 layered solid laminate. Not only is the honeycomb much stiffer, it is also lighter than the 14 layer solid laminate.
