Leading-edge
cellular technology |

The cellular blank to the right is 122mm/4.8"
in diameter and weighs 133 grams. When polished out it weighs
just 120 grams. This is lighter than carbon fiber mirror technology
but does not have the surface difficulties that carbon fiber
mirrors have seen in the last few decades. |
|
Lightweight mirrors of this
nature open up enormous possiblities. They also cool and
follow ambient temperatures far more efficiently than monolithic
mirrors that weigh roughly four times more. The (back) surface
area alone is an enormous advantage, even without considering
that it is four times lighter. |

This blank is approximately 20mm smaller in diameter
than the required secondary for the 32" Danish Project. |
The 145mm physical OD secondary for the 32" telescope
would weigh approximately 264 grams. |
