20"
OD carbon fiber sandwich core tube |
|
|
The first 16" f5 telescope that Oceanit built
using a carbon fiber, sandwich cored tube (produced by Dream
and fitted with one of Dream's 20"
dovetail plate(s) ) is shown to the right. The only carbon
fiber used for these initial units were in the tubes that Dream
produced. Oceanit used full-thickness optics and metal for the
other components of this telescope. The primary mirror alone
weighs 36 lbs. The telescope shown weighs approximately 110 lbs. |
|
|
The telescope is shown at Haleakala
in Hawaii. |

The benefit of this profile is that Dream's
20" dovetail plate(s) are all that is needed to connect
the telescope tube to a mount (German EQ or Fork). Thus eliminating
the drawbacks of rings. |
