16" Dream Astrograph - featuring Dream's Filtered Air System

"This is a beautiful piece of work."

John Gross - Sonoita Research Observatory, Sonoita, AZ

The 16" f3.75 Dream Astrograph is shown with one of the 20" dovetail plates (required accessory) attached. The dovetail plate allows fine control of balance in the dec axis. It was designed to mate with dec plates, like the 20" long VersaPlate of the Paramount ME.

The two cables on the left are the temperature probes discussed on the previous page. The red cable coming out of the second pass through port on the right is the 12v power for the fans.

New telescope orders are shipped with the 4" Dream PDF focuser. This custom focuser was developed to allow accurate collimation of the focuser with a very wide footprint (7.2" diameter). Like the back plate of this telescope, it uses 3/8-24 stainless steel push/pull bolts for extremely precise focuser alignment. It also allows the use of either the 3" coma corrector or 4" coma correctors.

The carbon fiber focuser platform reduces the moment arm of the imaging train and it greatly stiffens the focuser area.

The bolt pattern for the back plate is asymmetrical. The two top bolts are closer together than the two bottom bolts. This forces the back plate and therefore the primary mirror to go back on the telescope in the same orientation, thus helping to better preserve the collimation of the primary mirror.

The set of three 3" collimation tools is shown.

The 3" sight tube is installed in the focuser.

The 3" Cheshire (all black) and the 3" AutoCollimator (black top flange with silver body) can be seen sitting on the 20" Dream dovetail plate.

The 16" f3.75 Dream Astrograph uses 3/8-24 stainless steel collimation bolts in a push/pull arrangment. They are at a wider than normal location. The combination of 24tpi and wider location allow very fine control of the primary mirror's tip/tilt.

The photograph below shows one of the two angled viewports that can be used to see the secondary mirror's face directly. Because an EQ mount will place the telescope at multiple angles, the telescope tube has viewports on both sides.
