* The telescope is optimized to provide 100% illumination
of a 60mm diameter focal plane. But it can be used with even
larger focal planes, with vignetting. A custom version can be
produced for greater illumination of fields up to 135mm in diameter. |
* The 100%
illuminated field provides a 1 square
degree field. |
* Like all Dream telescopes, carbon fiber and
carbon fiber skinned sandwich
core are used extensively, including
the main telescope structure, primary mirror mount, backplate
and the main housing & internal spacers for the 4-element
Prime Focus Corrector (PFC) that comes with this telescope. |
* Primary mirror is an engineered, lightweight
Dream mirror. |
* Due to Dream's well-matched, in-house fabricated
carbon fiber and mirror technologies, the telescope is extremely
stable through temperature changes. |
* It includes
ASCOM-compliant focusing. |
* The telescope includes Dream's Filtered Air
System Technology, which means it has the lowest maintenance
of any product on the market. |

configuration. |

This Prime Focus Telescope(PFT), no Secondary Mirror (SM), offers higher
throughput and performance compared to a fast Cassegrain or Newtonian
configuration (Nc) for numerous reasons; |
* Reduced
obscuration means less diffraction effects and the use of more
surface area of the Primary Mirror (PM). Obscuration: <205mm
for PF versus 475mm for Nc. See the animation above showing that
94% of the PM is used in the PFT, while only 66% is used in the
Nc. |
* No light loss from SM surface. |
* No quality loss from SM surface. |
* Optical alignment is simplified. |
* Baffling is both simplified and can be
more complete. |
* Symmetric optical system provides better mechanical performance,
which leads to better all-sky performance. |
* Future re-coating only involves one mirror,
not two. |
* Installation & alignment far
more straight-forward for PFT. |
